When selecting the binder components, it is necessary to fully consider the types, proportions, total proportion of the binder components as the bonding phase, the interaction between the bonding phase components, and the effect on the framework phase (if there is a framework component). The bonding phase is the core of the binder matrix, playing the role of holding the diamond, bonding the framework phase, and giving the matrix a certain bonding strength. Due to the limitation of the thermal stability of diamonds, the melting point temperature of the bonding phase is preferably below 1000℃. This is not only convenient for the sintering of binders with framework phases as the main component, but also for binders with bonding phases as the main component; while a sintering temperature above 1000℃, even if using coated diamonds, will break through the coating layer and damage the diamond.

In conclusion, a binder formulation with good sintering properties should be: at a relatively low sintering temperature, it can form an appropriate amount of liquid phase and alloy well with the bonding phase components (including liquid phase alloy components), while not easily "leaking" and losing; the bonding phase can well wet the framework phase and undergo alloying; the remaining bonding phase fills the gaps between the framework phases and causes the matrix to contract appropriately to achieve densification; if the framework phase, such as WC and YG8, constitutes a considerable proportion in the binder, it can also be sintered at a sintering temperature where the bonding phase partially or completely melts, thereby achieving better bonding.
